This article comments on the ground breaking ceremony for the Gerald Desmond Bridge Replacement Project in Long Beach, California which took place January 8, 2013. There were several top transportation officials, local and national in attendance including Victor Mendez, Federal Highway Administrator. Project is expected to create about 3,000 jobs a year, on average for the next three years, and construction related spending from the project is expected to generate regional economic activity of about $2 billion. It is one of the first ten Design-Build projects authorized in the state.
