This articles covers the impending release of two standardized design-build contracts, the DB stipulated price contract and a design services contract between design-builder and consultant, by the Canadian Construction Documents Committee (CCDC). The CCDC is a national joint committee responsible for the development, production and review of standard Canadian construction contracts. These two contracts represent over a decade of work and collaboration of a variety of groups involved in DB contracting. New features of these contracts, compared to previous ones developed by CCDC, are increased flexibility in the requirements and roles of design-build contracting as well as an emphasis on the owner’s statement of requirements as it relates to the role of the design-builder in respect to the other consultants the design-builder is responsible for.
