In early February 2014 the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office (CBO) weighed in on the national transportation funding issue. In order to have funding continue at current levels for the next six years, the CBO has found that $100 billion would be needed in additional taxes or in transfers from the general fund. There is also a chance that the fund could be exhausted as early as August 2014.
