President Obama announced a new program to attract more private sector involvement in transportation infrastructure by expanding the opportunities for public-private partnerships (P3s). This shows that P3s are becoming increasingly important to the US transportation network in the face of failing public funding. This announcement came while he is traveling across the country to put pressure on the US Congress to find a solution to the Federal Highway Trust Fund shortfall. President Obama feels that the most recent funding bill that came out of the US House of Representatives does not do enough to provide a sustainable solution to national transportation funding.
