The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey’s design-build (D/B) project to raise the Bayonne Bridge from 161 feet to 215 feet above high tide is 25% complete. The project is estimated to cost $1.3 billion, about double the cost of the construction contract awarded in 2013, and completion is expected in mid-2016. Tolls will increase to $14. The Bayonne Bridge is 80 years old and was one of the longest steel arch bridges in the world when it opened in 1931.
