This article tells a detailed story of the proposed development of Texas’ first fully privately built, owned, and operated toll road, the Northeast Gateway, a prospective public-private partnership (P3) project to build a 27-mile private toll road near Interstate 30 (I-30). The project was initiated by Dallas-based Texas Turnpike Corp., who has said they would fund the project at no cost to the taxpayers. Local officials and residents oppose the project stating the details are too vague to warrant approval. The proposed project is still in the public-involvement phase, and the Texas Transportation Commission plans to submit the final recommendation for approval in 2015.
