This article summarizes how privatization of parking meters has fared in other states as the City Council of Jackson, Mississippi debates privatizing the maintenance, and possible expansion, of their city’s parking meters. Case studies mentioned include Chicago’s $1.15 billion 75 year lease of 36,000 parking meters; Cincinnati’s $92 million parking meter contract; and Houston’s $15-million contract for management of 1,500 meters.
