Indiana lawmakers add checks to agency responsible for I-69 construction ‘debacle’

Indy Star » The House unanimously approved House Bill 1374 on Monday, which would require the Indiana Finance Authority to only choose companies that have completed similar projects in North America during the past two years, when entering into a public-private partnership. IFA is the state agency responsible for overseeing public-private partnerships, including the 21-mile stretch of I-69 from Bloomington to Martinsville.

Georgia Wants To Build Truck-Only Highway, But Is It Worth It?

WABE » The Georgia Department of Transportation is working on building a separate highway for trucks only: No cars allowed. It’d be the first highway of its kind in the United States, stretching 40 miles from metro Atlanta to Macon. Atlanta-area truckers and industry groups said they’re excited, but the estimated cost is raising eyebrows.

First phase of interstate between Vegas, Phoenix underway

Roads & Bridges » Las Vegas and Phoenix are the only two cities with populations more than 1 million that are currently not connected by an interstate. The I-11 looks to change all that. The first phase in Boulder City is expected to be complete by the fall of 2018. Phase 1 will construct about 15 miles of new freeway around the southern and eastern perimeter of Boulder City, Nev., from I-515 to U.S. 93.

Trump Call for Faster Infrastructure Permits Faces Uncertain Road

Bloomberg » Several federal agencies are working to speed permitting of infrastructure projects, even though it remains to be seen whether Congress will act on President Donald Trump’s related request to move things along. There is much that agencies can do within the restrictions of existing laws, though they can expect legal challenges to many permits for roads, ports, dams, pipelines, airports, and other basic infrastructure.
