Pennsylvania allows Sunoco to resume work on Mariner NGL pipeline

Reuters » Pennsylvania environmental regulators on Thursday allowed Sunoco Pipeline LLP to resume work on its Mariner 2 East natural gas liquids pipeline after the company agreed to pay a $12.6 million fine for violations. The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP), which ordered the company to stop work on the $2.5 billion project on Jan. 3, said in a release that the fine was one of the largest civil penalties in a single settlement.

Gov. Jerry Brown Scales Back Plan for California Giant Water Project

U.S. News » Gov. Brown’s administration announced Wednesday that it was scaling back his troubled four-decade effort to redo California’s north-south water system, cutting plans to build giant water tunnels from two to one. Reducing the number of tunnels — at least for now — would help with California’s quest to line up enough funding and ease environmental concerns over tapping directly into the state’s largest river, officials said.

Senate budget deal includes $20 billion for infrastructure projects

The Hill » A bipartisan budget deal announced by Senate leaders Wednesday includes $20 billion for U.S. infrastructure programs. The funds would go toward “existing” projects for water and energy infrastructure as well as expanding broadband to rural regions and improving surface transportation.

Tucked into the document’s 101 pages was the requirement that any new structures in a floodplain be built well above projected flood levels — virtually the same requirements as those that Trump revoked last August.
