The Sacramento Bee » In a dramatic twist on the Delta tunnels saga, Southern California’s powerful water agency is exploring the feasibility of owning the majority stake in the controversial project, a move that raises fears of a “water grab.” Under the plan floated Monday by three board members, the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California would pour an extra $6 billion or more into the tunnels plan beyond what it has already pledged, enabling the twin tunnels to get built at the same time.

The toll on I-66 inside the Beltway hit $46.50 on Tuesday

The Washington Post » The toll on Interstate 66 inside the Capital Beltway reached $46.50 for a solo driver during the Tuesday morning rush, just below a record of $47.25 set last month. For much of the morning Tuesday, there were no major crashes in the D.C. region, but a heavy volume of commuters created delays on several highways in the Washington area. The toll reached its peak about 8:30 a.m.

Light-rail plan being discussed for Austin, Texas

KUT 90.5 »  A tweet has given us a glimpse at Cap Metro’s plans to build out a light-rail system in Austin that would cost anywhere between $1.4 and $2.1 billion. The tweet appeared to show a Project Connect-branded outline of a route that would run along a 12-mile stretch, connecting Guadalupe Street and Lamar Boulevard north to Highway 183, with room for more lines.

Honolulu Rail Project Pursuing Public-Private Partnerships for City Center Segment

Hawai’i Public Radio » The Honolulu Rail Transit Project is hosting a 2-day forum to attract private development partners. HART is planning to award a contract late next year for the City Center rail transit segment, the remaining 4.1 miles of elevated guideway and 8 stations.  The guideway and station contract will also include the Pearl Highlands Transit Center and Garage, a contract worth up to 1.5 billion dollars.
