As storms worsen, America’s aging dams overflow

CBS News » The average age of the 90,580 dams located across the U.S is 56 years, according to the American Society of Civil Engineers. ASCE says that in just 10 years, the number of at-risk dams has grown from 10 percent to 17 percent. One reason: Many are earthen dams, and the aging and crumbling structures are barely holding back nearby lakes and rivers.

Congressional panel slates hearing on California high-speed rail project

The subcommittee will also examine the most recent modifications to the project’s business plan, which were released in June.

Oroville Dam independent review board releases first report

Fluor and ACS Infrastructure Canada Win Gordie Howe Bridge Deal

World Highways » A partnership including Fluor Canada and ACS Infrastructure Canada has been chosen to design, build, finance, operate and maintain the Gordie Howe International Bridge project. Initial cost for the entire project was around US $1.5 billion but is now upwards of $3.7 billion. The Canadian government, which is building the bridge without US funding, estimates that toll revenue will be around $23 billion over the 30-year contract. Nonetheless, cost concerns for the new bridge are rising, as is the price tag.
