The Tampa City Council continues to oppose the $3.3 billion Tampa Bay Expressway Project (TBX) which would add express toll lanes to sections of Interstate 275. The City Council plans to hire a consultant to study the project’s effect on surrounding neighborhoods using community redevelopment funds from Tampa Heights, downtown Tampa, and Ybor City, which will have to be approved by the Community Redevelopment Agency. City Councilman and Metropolitan Planning Organization board member Guido Maniscalo believes the future of Tampa depends on the development of mass-transit, not the construction of highways.
