Using congestion funding that was made available in February 2016 the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) has awarded the first contract in a series of projects aimed to ease the traffic congestion that began when the $1.6 billion DFW Connector project lost its funding in 2014. A $61 million contract has been awarded to NorthGate Contractors for the construction of three direct connectors on the State Highway 121/360 Interchange. Construction on four additional projects in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex area is expected to begin by 2017.
