View Larger Image Things to Know about California’s giant twin tunnels project Associated Press / U.S. News » The State of California is proposing a $15.7 billion project to build a 35-mile stretch of two four-story high tunnels under the Sacramento-San Joaquin River (the Sacramento Delta) to transport water from northern to southern California. The project would rival the Channel Tunnel in England and Boston’s Big Dig in scope and size. Local agencies are contemplating the cost-efficiency of the water they would receive as the project ill be paid fro by the downstream users benefiting from the tunnels.
